Subject:Same Idea, different Market

Prentice Hall and McMillan Publishing are trying a similar thing to stop ARCs (Advanced Review Copies) from getting to Ebay before the book hits the shelves (where buyers will pay hundreds of dollars, of which $0 go to the publisher or the author, to get a book they can buy a week later for $35. True. Go figure.)

To stem the tide of royalty-free distribution of copyrighted print material, these two publishers are distributing the ARCs with handcuffs attached.

Some more widely read reviewers, who may have dozens or hundreds of ARCs at a time to read, are not pleased with the new development.
