Matthew writes: Responding to increasing media cacophony that video games and soda create a lethal lethargy that is making the nation obese, Id software has released “Dance Dance Quake Arena“.
DDQA uses the dance pad from the popular Dance Dance Revolution game to control first person combat. In order to move foreward in the game, players must alternate footstepts on the two primary feet pads. To turn left or right, the player jumps to that direction and then back to center. Jumping up is accomplished by jumping on both center foot pads simultaneously, and moving backwards is accomplished by alternating footsteps on the back footpads.
Firing, aiming, and switching weapons is accomplished using traditional mouse movements, but Id recommends using a gyroscopic mouse. Id is creating a wireless gyroscopic mouse shaped like a rail gun specifically for DDQA.
Beta testers have noted increased heart rates and improved immersion in the game, with an average weight loss of two pounds per level.

DDQA sounds like a blast! Of course, the liability issues will prevent it from ever being made…

Isn't the DDR dance pad just a game controller?

DDR uses a 4 button steup, which works perfectly with some consoles' controllers and their 4 button setups. Hence why it was made on the PS2.
Other (where other==better) dance games, such as Techno Motion, have four modes: the standard 4 button, a five button mode using the four corners and the center, an eight button mode using all the buttons except the center, and a “doubles” mode where one person uses both pads at once.
While these games increase stamina by keeping your heart rate up, they do little in the way of actual weight loss.

While I usually find the techno-music annoying, I cannot deny the improved urban friendliness of “Head Shot” and “Double Kill” as scratches on this platform. Somebody call Tupac's agent!!!
But for the controller question, the gyro scope pistol may prove disasterous for the low-riding jeans crowd while it takes both hands to maintain a decent urban stance. (These guys never watched “You Got Served”???)
Recommend to the P. Diddy “Sean John Connery R&D” depart. that necklaces, belt loops and cell phone headsets be prototyped first. (Keep the trucker hat development in the N.E.R.D. house, but don't tell Timberlake).
And finally, the level designers may need some additional support. Cruising the local clubs and hang outs for moves, secrets, weapons and skins are more complicated than standard field scouting.
Extra health and body armour are a must, and nothing less than B. Franklins in the money clips for street cred.
